TPHA
A treponemal antibody test, the Lab21 Healthcare TPHA test uses preserved avian erythrocytes coated with antigens of T. pallidum (Nichols strain) to bind specific antibody in patient serum or plasma samples. Non-specific reactions are eliminated by suspension of the antigen-coated erythrocyte cells in a specially formulated diluent. Positive reactions are characterised by haemagglutination and can be interpreted by eye. Alternatively, the process can be automated using standard laboratory equipment and haemagglutination reading software. Kits are available in 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 test sizes. The 2000 test kit is intended for automated use with Olympus PK7200 and PK7300 analysers.
