RPR

This is a non-treponemal antibody test detecting rapid plasma reagin (RPR) antibodies. These antibodies tend to disappear after successful cure of the infection. The Lab21 Healthcare RPR test uses carbon particles coated with cardiolipin antigen to detect anti-reagin antibodies in serum or plasma samples. Non-specific reactions are eliminated by suspension of the carbon particles in a specially formulated medium. Positive reactions are shown by macroscopic aggregation of the particles and can be read by eye. This type of test is ideal where cost is a critical factor. Because it is non-specific, positive results should be confirmed with TPHA testing and clinical observation. Kits are available in 100 and 500 test sizes.
