FibroMax™
The safe alternative to Liver Biopsy
What is FibroMax™?
FibroMax™ is a combination of five algorithm tests – FibroTest™, ActiTest™, SteatoTest™, NashTest™, and AshTest™. FibroMax™ uses a unique combination of serum markers plus age, gender, weight and height data which, when entered into patented algorithms, accurately determines the level of liver disease without the need to undertake an invasive liver biopsy. Globally, over 120,000 Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) patients are now being clinically managed using FibroTest™ – ActiTest™.
- FibroTest™ measures the level of liver fibrosis.
- ActiTest™ measures active liver disease.
- SteatoTest™ measures hepatitic steatosis or ‘fatty liver’.
- NashTest™ measures the level of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
AshTest™ is used to monitor liver damage in cases of severe alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH).
Which patients can benefit?
FibroTest™ and SteatoTest™ are suitable for patients with HCV, hepatitis B (HBV), alcoholic liver disease and hepatitic steatosis also know as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. According to risk factors in individuals the following tests could be performed:
- NashTest™ is used as a measure for NASH in patients that are overweight, insulin resistant, hyperlipidemic or diabetic.
- AshTest™ is an indicator for ASH in individuals with an excessive alcohol intake.
- ActiTest™ is used to measure necroinflammatory activity in HBV and HCV patients.

How does the testing service work?

What do the reports look like?
- FibroMax™ result levels are directly correlated to numerical standards.
- Fibrosis Marker (METAVIR F0-F4) stages.
- Necroinflammatory Marker (METAVIR A0-A3) grades.
- Steatosis Marker (50-53) grades.
- NASH Marker (N0-N2), three categories corresponding to “NOT NASH”, “Borderline NASH”, and “NASH” per the Kleiner classification.
- ASH Marker (ASH0-ASH3) grades.

What tests are performed?
Non-invasive biochemical markers are used as surrogate markers for a liver biopsy. These markers are analysed in FibroMax™. The resulting values are entered online into the BioPredictive secure site where they are analysed using a proprietary algorithm including age, gender and in some tests weight and height.
From receipt of the patient sample at our laboratory, a fully interpreted liver status report will be sent to the clinician within 2 working days.
